Gong bath vs sound bath: what's the difference?

VAANYA Sanctuary · Sep 2026 · 3 min read

The terms get used interchangeably, but there's a difference in feel.

A sound bath

Uses a mix of instruments: bowls, chimes, drums, sometimes voice. It tends to be soft and varied.

A gong bath

Centres on the gong, which produces huge, rolling waves of overtones. It's more immersive and physical: you feel it as much as hear it.

Many of our sessions combine both: bowls to settle you, gong to take you deeper.

If you're new, start with a sound bath. If you already love it, try a gong session next.
